This painting is inspired by autumn mornings spent foraging in the woods. Wrapped in warm woollies, a mother and child set out through the cold mist to gather mushrooms amongst leaves and ferns. Their basket slowly fills as they stop to examine the different varieties growing along the path.
Filled with woodland mushrooms, winding paths, autumn leaves and baskets, the painting shows the autumn traditions of foraging. Mushrooms are roasted at lunchtime, together with fresh bread and chocolate milk. When they come home the fire has warmed the kitchen and both say to one another: ‘Autumn isn’t that bad at all!’
